      Since the publication of its first book in 1961, FHS has been a leading publisher of books on forest and conservation history, covering topics about North America and the world.

      Since the 1980s, the Forest History Society has been involved in documentary film production. In 2005 the Society supported production of The Greatest Good: A Forest Service Centennial Film and distributes it. In 2016 FHS produced the Emmy Award–winning America's First Forest: Carl Schenck and the Asheville Experiment for public television.

      The FHS Issues Series brings a historical context to today's most pressing issues in forestry and natural resource management. These books present a balanced examination of often contentious issues. They are informative and easily accessible to the general reader, land manager, and student alike.
