Collection Overview

The collection includes one photograph album, consisting of 30 black and white photographs and 2 loose photographs, and supporting materials. The collection centers around attempts to sell a major collection of photographs and negatives taken by Darius Kinsey. The original owner of the collection, Jesse Ebert, sent the album of 30 photographs along with his offer to sell the complete collection to Yale University.

In addition to the album, materials include a 1979 calendar with Darius Kinsey Photographs; "Catalog of Washington Timber and Scenic Views" prepared by Darius Kinsey; brochure pertaining to Darius Kinsey book and envelope with Kinsey's picture on it; 2 portfolios advertising the 1986 two volume set, Kinsey Photographer; detailed list of the Darius Kinsey photography collection (now held at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art); file containing correspondence regarding early attempts to sell the Kinsey Collection; 2 photographs of Darius Kinsey exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art, September 24 to November 28, 1963. The correspondence file documents some of the letters during the negotiation process.

The full collection was finally sold to Dave Bohn and Rodolpho Petschek in 1971, who published a two-volume book of Kinsey photographs and in 1974 gave the collection to the Whatcom Museum of History and Art in Bellingham, Washington where it currently resides.
