Forest History Today Magazine
Spring/Fall 2022 Issue
This issue contains two special sections: the first commemorates the career of Harold K. “Pete” Steen, the third executive director of the Forest History Society and a widely respected forest historian, and the second is about the inaugural Women’s Forest Congress. Feature articles in this issue include a “conversation” between two foresters comparing how the Dauerwald forest management strategy was used in Germany and Missouri, the centuries-long history of rosewood as a global commodity, and a debunking of the mythical origins of the American wood pulp and paper industry. In the Columns department, you can learn about a private hunting preserve in South Carolina that was turned into an ecological research center, an iconic tree, and a pioneering figure in the National Park Service.
