Abstract: Dennis C. LeMaster is a forestry scholar and author. He has served as director of resource policy for the Society of American Foresters, staff consultant to the subcommittee on forests of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, head of the Department of Forestry at Washington State University, and head of the Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources.

The collection holds files documenting his time as a staff consultant to the subcommittee on forests of the U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee. There are also subject files and articles used by LeMaster as research for his book Decade of Change: The Remaking of Forest Service Statutory Authority During the 1970s.

Biographical Note

Dennis C. LeMaster is a forestry scholar and author. He earned a Ph.D in economics at Washington State University and was the director of resource policy for the Society of American Foresters from 1974 to 1977. From 1977 to 1978, LeMaster served as a staff consultant to the subcommittee on forests of the U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee. During this time, he assisted with several local and national Resources Planning Act (RPA) Oversight hearings.

LeMaster became an associate professor at Washington State University in 1978. From 1980 to 1988 he served as head of the Department of Forestry and Range Management at Washington State. In 1988 he became professor and head of the Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. LeMaster is the author of Decade of Change: The Remaking of Forest Service Statutory Authority During the 1970s (1984) as well as many journal articles.

1. Resources Planning Act Hearings, 1976-1978.

The Resources Planning Act files hold correspondence, witness lists, copies of speeches and presentations, press releases, and hearing summaries. There are also regional Forest Service publications and statistics. These files document the conception, organization, and execution of the 1977 hearings in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Warren, Pennsylvania; Hot Springs, Arkansas; Portland, Oregon; and Washington, D.C.
