Descriptive Summary

Abstract: Lester P. Schaap (1905-1965) served as a forest ranger in a variety of different districts throughout the United States South. In 1941, he was a forest ranger in the Desoto, Leaf River-Brooklyn district of Mississippi. From 1942-1945, he served as forest ranger in the Nantahala, Tusquittee-Murphy district of North Carolina. He served as forest ranger in the Sumter, General Pickens-Wallhalla district of South Carolina from 1942-1953. In 1954, he served as forest ranger in the Sumter, General Pickens-Stumphouse Ranger Station district of South Carolina.

Collection includes Lester Schaap's personal diary pages from 1941-1947 and 1949-1957. Also includes two manuals and one photograph.

Collection includes Mr. Schaap's personal diary pages from 1941-1947 and 1949-1957. Also included are Manual of Instructions for the Survey of the Public lands of the United States published in 1924 by the Department of Interior General Land Office, and Mr. Schaap's copy of Handbook for Rangers and Woodsman by Jay L. B. Taylor, published in 1917. Additionally 1 photograph noted to be taken around 1927/28 on the Western Division of the Choctawhatchee National Forest in Florida featuring Schaap, E.R. McKee, Sam R. Broadbent, as well as 4 unnamed men noted to be forest workers of the district.
